Retail Food Group Limited (RFG) has announced the launch of Firehouse Subs, a successful US sandwich brand, in Australia. Founded in 1994 by two former firefighter brothers in Jacksonville, Florida, Firehouse Subs is celebrated for its premium sandwiches made using a unique steam-based cooking process. The brand has over 1,300 restaurants in the US and is now expanding globally. RFG has secured the exclusive rights to grow the Firehouse Subs brand in Australia and plans to open 165 restaurants over the next 10 years. The first Firehouse Subs restaurant is expected to open in South East Queensland in late 2025. RFG has committed to investing US$4 million per year for the first three years to fund the rapid growth, increasing to US$5 million per year in years 4 to 6. The investment will be funded through a A$7.5 million debt drawdown under RFG's existing debt facilities. RFG will initially operate the restaurants company-owned before commencing franchising in year four.Firehouse Subs is known for its high-quality, fresh ingredients, unique steam-based cooking process, and commitment to supporting local public safety organizations. RFG believes the brand's value proposition will resonate strongly with Australian consumers, who have expressed a high level of interest in trying a new fast-food sandwich concept.
RFG plans to open 165 Firehouse Subs restaurants in Australia over the next 10 years, with the first restaurant expected to open in late 2025.
RFG is confident that the Firehouse Subs brand and its unique value proposition will be well-received by Australian consumers, and the company is targeting rapid expansion of the concept over the next decade.
