Empire Energy reports Q1 2025 activities, plans for Carpentaria-5H stimulation
- Carpentaria-5H horizontal well drilled, longest in Beetaloo Basin to date
- Preparing for hydraulic stimulation and flow testing of C-5H in June
- Advancing regulatory approvals for Carpentaria Gas Plant construction and gas sales
In its Q1 2025 quarterly report, Empire Energy Group Ltd outlined its key activities and progress during the period. The company's focus has been on planning for the hydraulic stimulation of the Carpentaria-5H (C-5H) well, which is scheduled to take place later in the current quarter. C-5H was drilled to a total depth of 5,310 metres, with a horizontal section of 3,310 metres, making it the longest horizontal well completed in the Beetaloo Basin to date. The technical and operations team have undertaken interpretation of the C-5H horizontal section to finalise and optimise the hydraulic stimulation design, including fluid selection, pump strategies, and perforation strategies, with the aim of driving increased gas recovery and flow rates. Following the stimulation and soaking period, the well will undergo a 30-day flow test (IP30) before being shut-in until tied-in to the Carpentaria Gas Plant for production and sales. The company is also well advanced in the final regulatory approvals for the sale of gas under the Beneficial Use of Gas provisions of the NT Petroleum Act, including engaging with senior traditional owners in preparation for an upcoming meeting with the Northern Land Council. The company's total liquidity at the end of the quarter was $32.2 million, comprised of cash of $14.4 million and $17.8 million of undrawn funding available under the Macquarie facilities.
Empire is focused on gaining final approvals to construct the Carpentaria Gas Plant, with an application for Beneficial Use of Gas under the NT Petroleum Act well advanced. The company expects to conclude these regulatory processes in late Q2 or early Q3, following which construction of the Carpentaria Gas Plant will immediately commence.
