Contact Energy Ltd has released its May 2025 operating report, providing an update on the company's performance across its retail and wholesale businesses. In the retail segment, the company recorded mass market electricity and gas sales of 365GWh, down from 413GWh in May 2024. The mass market netback increased to $145.13/MWh from $130.41/MWh in the prior year. In the wholesale business, contracted electricity sales, including that sold to the retail segment, totalled 768GWh, down from 778GWh in May 2024. Electricity and steam net revenue increased to $169.49/MWh from $163.31/MWh. Electricity generated (or acquired) was 842GWh, up from 821GWh in the prior year, while the unit generation cost, including acquired generation, decreased to $49.26/MWh from $61.80/MWh. The company also provided updates on the progress of its Te Huka 3 and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, as well as information on New Zealand's electricity market conditions and the company's contracted gas position.
