- Received approval from SEMAD to construct and operate a Rare Earth Pilot Processing Facility
- Pilot Plant designed to process up to 25 kg of feed ore per hour, producing ~2 kg of Mixed Rare Earth Carbonate per day
- Pilot Plant to provide operational certainty, optimize inputs, secure offtake agreements, and develop downstream separation technologies
Meteoric Resources NL (ASX: MEI) has received formal approval from the Minas Gerais State Secretariat for the Environment and Sustainable Development (SEMAD) to construct and operate a Rare Earth Pilot Processing Facility in Poços de Caldas, Brazil. The Pilot Plant is designed to process up to 25 kilograms of feed ore per hour, enabling the production of approximately 2 kilograms of Mixed Rare Earth Carbonate (MREC) per day. The establishment of the Pilot Plant represents an important step in the development of the Caldeira Rare Earth Project, as it will allow Meteoric to provide operational certainty, engage in real-time optimization of inputs, secure offtake agreements, and develop downstream separation technologies. Construction and commissioning of the Pilot Plant is scheduled to begin immediately, with full-scale operations commencing in late October 2025. The Pilot Plant has an estimated capital cost of approximately A$2 million and will be located in Meteoric's customized facility in Poços do Caldas.
The Pilot Plant will allow Meteoric to demonstrate its technical capacity to produce a high-quality MREC product, while managing spent clays with low environmental impact. This places the company in an excellent position to develop and deliver the Caldeira Rare Earth Project.
