Delorean Secures Long-Term Biomethane Offtake with Origin Energy
- Delorean signs 8-year biomethane offtake agreement with Origin Energy
- Agreement covers up to 200 terajoules per annum of renewable biomethane
- Supports $6.1m in ARENA grant funding for Delorean's SA1 bioenergy facility
Delorean Corporation Limited (ASX: DEL) has announced a binding Gas Sales Agreement with Origin Energy Retail Limited for the long-term supply of renewable biomethane from its SA1 Salisbury bioenergy facility in South Australia. Under the agreement, Origin will purchase up to 200 terajoules per annum of biomethane 'as arising' from the SA1 facility on a take-or-pay basis for 8 years from the expected first gas in April 2026, with a further two-year option for Origin to March 2036. The agreement includes the purchase of Renewable Gas Guarantee of Origin (RGGO) certificates generated by the SA1 facility, which can be used by large industrial sector customers to reduce their Scope 1 emissions. The biomethane offtake agreement satisfies a key condition precedent for Delorean to receive up to $6.1 million in grant funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) as part of its National Industrial Transformation Program. Coupled with Delorean's recently announced agreement with Supagas for the long-term offtake of biogenic food-grade liquid carbon dioxide from the SA1 facility, this Origin offtake means that Delorean has now locked in revenues of up to $55 million over the 10-year term, with additional revenues from gate fees and carbon credits.
Delorean's SA1 bioenergy facility is expected to produce up to 210 terajoules per annum of renewable natural gas (biomethane) for supply to the Adelaide gas network under a long-term offtake agreement.
The long-term biomethane offtake agreement with Origin Energy confirms the bankability of Delorean's SA1 bioenergy facility and supports the company's plans to develop additional build-own-operate bioenergy projects in the future.
