Acusensus awarded $8.7m contract for WA fixed camera program
- New five-year contract to supply multi-function fixed site enforcement camera programs in Western Australia
- The program will detect road traffic offences including speeding, mobile phone use, seatbelt compliance, and more
- Estimated initial contract value of $8.7 million over the first five years
Acusensus Limited, a technology company designing and developing artificial intelligence enabled road safety solutions, has announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Acusensus Australia Pty Ltd, has signed a new agreement with the Western Australian government, acting through the Road Safety Commission unit of the Western Australian Police Force, for a multi-function fixed safety camera program. This new agreement, awarded after a competitive tender process, follows on from a trial agreement that commenced operations in January 2022. The multi-function fixed safety camera program will be deployed on Western Australian freeways such as the Mitchell Freeway and the Kwinana Freeway. The program has an initial term of five years, with the WA Road Safety Commission having the option to extend the term on up to three occasions, each for a period of one year. Acusensus' fixed site technology supplied under this new program has the ability to detect drivers who are using mobile phones whilst driving, front seat vehicle occupants who are not wearing seatbelts properly, as well as drivers who are speeding both at a point in time and on an average basis over a set distance, 'red X' lane violations and unregistered vehicles. The estimated contract value is $8.7 million (excluding GST) over the initial five-year term.
Acusensus' Managing Director stated that the deployment of their multi-function fixed cameras on the Mitchell and Kwinana Freeways will significantly enhance the WA Road Safety Commission's ability to enforce key road safety behaviours, emphasising the need for driver behaviour change to improve road safety in Western Australia.
