Full Summary

Melbana Energy Limited (ASX: MAY) has provided an operational update on its field activities in Block 9, Cuba, in which the company holds a 30% interest. The key highlights include the Amistad-2 surface hole being drilled to 327 metres measured depth, with oil impregnation of samples and oil-sheen noted on the shakers during the drilling of this non-reservoir section. The surface casing has been run and cemented in place, and the first wellhead section with the BOP stack above has been installed and tested. Drilling out of the cement and shoe has recently commenced, ahead of entering the expected shallow Unit 1A oil reservoir. The objective of the Amistad-2 production well is to maximally intercept the Unit 1B oil reservoir and be left online as an additional producer, while the shallower Unit 1A oil reservoir is also considered a viable future target.
