Operations Resume at Endeavor Mine
- Tragic loss of two employees in recent incident
- Investigations underway to determine cause
- Staged resumption of operations has commenced
- Rigorous review of Safety Management System planned
Polymetals Resources Ltd (ASX: POL) has announced the resumption of operations at its Endeavor Silver-Zinc Mine in Cobar, NSW, following a recent fatal incident. The company expressed its deepest condolences for the tragic loss of two employees, Holly Clarke and Patrick 'Ambrose' McMullen, and provided support to the injured employee, Mackenzie Stirling, who is continuing her recovery. The NSW Resources Regulator, NSW Police, and independent mining experts are investigating the cause of the unintended initiation of a ballistic disc that was being set up to release a stope hang-up. The area where the incident occurred remains under a statutory non-entry notice, and the company is working with the Resources Regulator to manage access as necessary. Prior to the resumption of blasting activities, Polymetals will conduct a rigorous review of its Safety Management System relating to the handling and use of explosives at the mine, with improvement measures to be implemented if any deficiencies are identified. The staged resumption of operations has commenced, with rostered mining, maintenance, and processing employees returning to day shift, transitioning to continuous shift in the coming weeks. Polymetals Executive Chairman Dave Sproule expressed his pride in the response from the affected families, friends, colleagues, and the Cobar community, and the company's commitment to supporting its employees and continuing the long-term operation of the Endeavor Mine.
The company will move past this accident and continue on its path to see the Endeavor Mine back online as the long-term operation it intends it to become.
