EOS Acquires Interceptor Capability to Expand Counter-Drone Offerings
- Acquisition of complementary counter-drone interceptor capability from MARSS Group
- Interceptor technology seen as highly promising for future counter-drone product mix
- Expected to be integrated into EOS' portfolio and launched commercially within 12-24 months
Electro Optic Systems Holdings Limited (EOS) has announced the acquisition of the UK-based interceptor business from MARSS Group for a total initial investment of €5.5 million (approximately A$10 million). The interceptor technology is seen as a critical future counter-drone tool due to its agility, range, cost-effectiveness, and low collateral damage. Following the launch, the interceptor system will pursue targets with onboard imaging, infrared seeker, and advanced AI-based guidance, and can be operated fully autonomously if required. The acquisition is consistent with EOS' strategic intent of expanding its counter-drone capability, as the interceptor will broaden EOS' 'effector' portfolio, complementing its existing Remote Weapon Systems and High Energy Laser Weapons. The interceptor technology has high strategic product potential due to its AI capability to counter 'smart' drones, high-speed ability, low production cost, and potential integration with EOS' Remote Weapon Systems. The acquisition also extends EOS' software/AI capability and establishes the company in the UK market. EOS expects the further development and integration of the interceptor technology to take 12-24 months before a full commercial launch, which is faster and lower risk than in-house development. EOS will provide further updates in line with its continuous disclosure obligations.
EOS expects to invest up to A$10 million over the next three years to further develop the interceptor technology, with the potential for additional customer development funding.
