Delorean partners with Opal for bioenergy facility
- Strategic collaboration with Opal to assess viability of anaerobic digestion facility at Opal's Maryvale Paper Mill
- Feasibility study funded by Opal, potential 50/50 joint venture post-feasibility
- Delorean granted exclusivity on like-for-like mesophilic AD technology at Opal site
Delorean Corporation Limited (ASX: DEL) has announced a strategic collaboration with Paper Australia Pty Ltd (Opal), a leading Australian and New Zealand recycling, paper and packaging manufacturer. The companies have executed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Master Services Agreement (MSA) to assess the viability of an anaerobic digestion (AD) facility at Opal's Maryvale Paper Mill site in Victoria, Australia. The feasibility study for the proposed AD facility will be funded by Opal and is estimated to be up to $2 million in value. The study will evaluate the technical, financial, environmental and market potential of converting Opal's organic waste by-products into renewable gas and/or renewable electricity through a staged development process. If the project is deemed commercially viable, the parties intend to form a 50/50 joint venture (or equivalent structure) to develop, construct and operate the facilities over a nominal 25-year asset life. Delorean will have the first right of refusal for a 50% equity stake in the joint venture, subject to its financial capacity. The agreement also grants Delorean exclusivity on like-for-like mesophilic AD technology at the Opal site during key development periods. This aligns with Delorean's Build-Own-Operate (BOO) strategy and supports Opal's decarbonisation targets, while delivering long-term recurring revenue for Delorean. The Master Services Agreement establishes a standing offer for Delorean to provide development services, with the initial contract deemed issued for the Maryvale site.
