BHP Delivers Strong Q2 Performance, Raises Copper Guidance
- Record copper production at Escondida and Copper SA
- Increased FY26 copper production guidance to 1,900 - 2,000 kt
- WAIO achieves record first half production and shipments
BHP delivered another strong half of operational performance in the six months ended 31 December 2025, with records set at its copper and iron ore assets. Copper production was broadly in line at 984 kt, but the company has increased its FY26 copper production guidance to 1,900 - 2,000 kt, up from the previous range of 1,800 - 2,000 kt. This was driven by stronger delivery across BHP's copper assets, including record concentrator throughput at the flagship Escondida operation. Antamina also lifted its copper production guidance for FY26. In iron ore, WAIO achieved record first half production and shipments, positioning the company well ahead of the typically wet third quarter. Volumes from Samarco rose as a result of strong operational performance at the second concentrator following its restart. Steelmaking coal production increased, supported by a five-year high stripping performance at BMA, while energy coal was up 10% at NSWEC. BHP also announced a US$2 billion infrastructure agreement with Global Infrastructure Partners involving WAIO's power consumption, which will strengthen the company's balance sheet flexibility and support long-term value creation.
BHP has increased its FY26 copper production guidance to 1,900 - 2,000 kt, up from the previous range of 1,800 - 2,000 kt. Escondida's FY26 production guidance has been increased to 1,200 - 1,275 kt, while Antamina's guidance has been raised to 140 - 150 kt.
