Elixir Energy Drills Heel of Lorelle-3H Well
- Elixir has drilled and cased the heel of the Lorelle-3H well through the overlying coal and into the primary target, the Tinowon 'Dunk' Sandstone
- SLB has completed the Lorelle-3H Horizontal Landing Optimisation Study to identify the best zone within the 28m of net pay to maximise stimulation effectiveness and reservoir drainage
- Elixir has commenced running into the hole with a 6-1/8' directional drilling bottom hole assembly to collect reservoir parameters and hydrocarbon saturation, and geo-steer the well path
Elixir Energy Limited has provided an update on drilling operations at the high impact Lorelle-3H appraisal well in ATP2056 within Queensland's Taroom Trough. The company has drilled and cased the heel of the Lorelle-3H well through the overlying coal and into the primary target, the Tinowon 'Dunk' Sandstone. This marks a significant de-risking moment for the horizontal section of the well, which will commence drilling imminently. SLB has completed the Lorelle-3H Horizontal Landing Optimisation Study, which has been used to identify the best zone within the 28m of net pay in the Dunk Sands to place the horizontal well bore in order to maximise stimulation effectiveness and reservoir drainage. Elixir has commenced running into the hole with a 6-1/8' directional drilling bottom hole assembly accompanied by a full logging-while-drilling suite. These tools will be used to collect reservoir parameters and hydrocarbon saturation as well as geo-steering the well path through the Tinowon 'Dunk' Sands along the optimised zone. Elixir intends to drill 1,000m+ of horizontal well bore before casing and cementing the section with 4-1/2' casing and suspending the well for a multi-stage fracture stimulation and flow testing. The data and core gathered from the expanded evaluation campaign will lead into a series of experiments and laboratory work that will support the design and execution of an optimal stimulation. Elixir then intends to execute a multi-stage fracture stimulation and production test at Lorelle-3 prior to end-June 2026. This sidetrack and flow test is designed to demonstrate commercial flow rates of gas and condensate from the Basin Centred Gas Play and then lead into a possible maiden Reserve conversion of the underlying Resource.
