Mount Ridley Secures CSIRO Co-Funding for Scandium Research
- Mount Ridley receives $104,000 co-funding from CSIRO for scandium research
- Project aims to explore scandium's application in additive manufacturing
- Focus on high-value sectors like aerospace, defense, and robotics
- Expected to define future stages of research and development
Mount Ridley Mines Limited has announced it has received co-funding under the CSIRO Kick-Start program to support a collaborative research project with CSIRO aimed at evaluating downstream development pathways for scandium. The project, with a total budget of $104,000, will be conducted by CSIRO's researchers from Lab22 additive manufacturing research facility. The research will assess the application of scandium in additive manufacturing alloys, focusing on sectors such as aerospace, defense, and advanced manufacturing. Stage 1 of the project will define and inform a subsequent Stage 2 focused on the development of scandium-based materials for additive manufacturing. Mount Ridley holds a significant global scandium resource, with a JORC (2012) compliant Inferred Mineral Resource of 367.98 Mt at 57.2ppm Sc, containing approximately 18,555 tonnes of scandium metal. The company aims to leverage this resource to create proprietary positions in high-value advanced manufacturing supply chains.
