Kingsgate Consolidated Limited (ASX: KCN) has reported a significant mechanical failure at Plant 1 of its Chatree Gold Mine in Thailand. The incident, which occurred on Friday night, resulted in the shutdown of the Plant 1 ball mill due to elevated bearing temperatures. There were no injuries reported. Preliminary inspections suggest a failure of the ball mill trunnion bearings with associated damage to the trunnion journals. The root cause is under investigation, with initial indications pointing to a potential lubrication system event. Plant 1, with a processing capacity of 2.3 million tonnes per annum, has been taken offline for a detailed technical assessment. Kingsgate has mobilized its teams and engaged Metso, the original equipment manufacturer, for technical assistance. The company is assessing repair alternatives and operating options to minimize downtime.
