Centaurus Metals Secures Power Grid Access for Jaguar Nickel Project
- Centaurus Metals subsidiary approved for 230kV grid connection
- Initial power allocation of 20MW secured
- Expected to reduce operating costs significantly
Centaurus Metals Ltd announced that its Brazilian subsidiary, Centaurus Níquel Ltda., has received approval from the Operador Nacional do Sistema Elétrico (ONS) to connect its Jaguar Nickel Sulphide Project to Brazil's national 230kV power grid. This approval allows for an initial power allocation of 20MW, marking a significant milestone in the project's development. The connection to the national grid is expected to provide reliable and low-cost electricity, reducing transmission charges by more than half compared to regional distribution systems. This development is anticipated to deliver long-term operating cost benefits, positioning the project favorably within the global nickel cost curve. The project requires a R$9.7 million (A$2.7 million) guarantee to be lodged with ONS within 90 days, which will remain in place until the project is operational.
The approval of the power grid connection is expected to significantly reduce operating costs for the Jaguar Nickel Sulphide Project, supporting its position in the bottom quartile of the global nickel cost curve.
