Environmental Clean Technologies Limited (ASX: ECT) has announced that Xenica Inc, a subsidiary of its acquisition target Xenica Pty Ltd, has secured a sublicence from MXene Inc to produce and sell MXenes for military and defence applications. This sublicence complements ECT's MXene strategy, which includes the acquisition of Xenica, access to Metallium Ltd's Gator Point FJH reactor platform, and initial supply of US-sourced MAX Phase precursor. The sublicence positions ECT to address the high demand for MXenes in the defence sector, where procurement is performance-led, and supply currently exceeds demand. MXene Inc, the only exclusive military-use MXene licensee, has publicly confirmed that production remains at kilogram scale and is targeting metric-ton capacity by 2027 to meet existing defence contracts. The US Executive Order 14415, which restricts foreign sourcing waivers from 1 January 2027, further supports the demand for US-produced MXenes.
