Lindian Resources Limited (ASX: LIN) has announced the award of a site access road contract for its flagship Kangankunde Rare Earths Project in Malawi. The contract, valued at approximately US$1.3 million, has been awarded to leading European construction group Mota-Engil. The 18-week construction program will include the intersection of the access road with the main M1 highway, 5km of access road works, and associated civil works and security infrastructure around the mining lease area. Completion of this infrastructure will enable seamless transportation of construction materials and equipment, ensuring timely development of the process plant once project financing is secured in Q1 2025. The site access road is a critical milestone for the Kangankunde project, which is one of the world's largest and highest-grade rare earth deposits. Lindian's CEO Alwyn Vorster noted that the selection of Mota-Engil as the first development partner is an important step that may lead to their broader involvement in additional work packages over time. The company has also received all necessary government approvals and is encouraged by the strong support from the Malawi government. Lindian is in the final stages of securing key commercial agreements, including the fixed-price contract for the process plant and the power supply contract, and remains committed to advancing funding solutions within Q1 2025 to commence process plant construction shortly thereafter.
