St Barbara Ltd has announced the successful installation and commissioning of the new MMD Sizer crusher at its Simberi operations in Papua New Guinea. The Sizer crusher, a key component of the Project's Pre-Expansion Growth Capital, arrived at Simberi in February 2024 and was safely and successfully installed, assembled, and commissioned on time and under budget. The Sizer crusher exceeded all commissioning targets, achieving a finer product size than anticipated, with P100 passing 150mm compared to the objective of P80 passing 150mm. This will provide a more consistent ore feed to the SAG mill circuit and improve overall availability and throughput rate. The company also noted that the SAG mill performance has improved following a January shutdown, which included a reset of operating parameters and changes to the liner and lifter set up. Throughput per hour has increased to above target since the restart after the shutdown. The successful commissioning of the Sizer crusher, together with the improved SAG mill performance, is a key milestone for operational improvement expectations for the second half of the 2025 financial year. Additionally, St Barbara has appointed Mr. Phil Stephenson as Consultant Operations Advisor, reporting directly to the Managing Director and CEO. Mr. Stephenson has extensive international mining operations experience, particularly in Papua New Guinea, and will provide monitoring of operating performance, recommendations on strategic and tactical actions, advice on the Simberi Sulphides Feasibility Study outputs, and guidance on operational readiness decisions.
