Orora provides update on French Competition Authority investigation
- Investigation relates to period prior to Orora's ownership of Saverglass
- Complaint originated from beverage industry participants regarding price increases
- Saverglass leadership confident appropriate business practices have been followed
Orora Limited (ASX: ORA) has provided an update on the French Competition Authority's investigation into the manufacture and marketing of glass packaging in France. The investigation relates to a period prior to Orora's ownership of Saverglass, which was marked by major events including the Covid pandemic and the start of the war in Ukraine in February 2022, leading to significant increases in input costs for glass container production. The complaint originated from participants in the beverage industry in France regarding price increases, and at this stage it appears that only a small number of those are customers of Saverglass, representing minor trading relationships. The Saverglass leadership team is confident appropriate business practices have been followed, operating independently from other glass packaging manufacturers. Orora and Saverglass uphold strong standards of integrity and have a strong commitment to competition law compliance. Representatives from the French Competition Authority visited the Saverglass head office unannounced, and it is understood a number of other participants in the sector were subject to similar on-site visits. The French Competition Authority has stated that such an inspection does not prejudge the guilt of the companies concerned. Orora's Saverglass business, supported by Orora, remains committed to continuing to co-operate with the French Competition Authority, and Orora will keep the market updated in accordance with its continuous disclosure obligations.
