NEXTDC Secures A$1.1 Billion in Convertible Funding
Data center operator NEXTDC has successfully priced A$1.1 billion of convertible notes due 2031, locking in a modest 1.75% interest rate. The move provides committed funding for the company's development pipeline while boosting its liquidity position. The notes carry an initial conversion price of A$16.6950 per share—a 32.5% premium over the reference price—and will be listed on Vienna's multilateral trading facility rather than the ASX. After costs, NEXTDC expects to pocket around A$1,006 million from the offering, money it plans to deploy across its growth ambitions while maintaining flexibility to chase customer-led opportunities.
Lion Selection Group's Portfolio Surges Despite Profit Decline
Investment company Lion Selection Group delivered mixed results for the year ended 31 July 2026. While the company's profit tumbled 77% to $8.89 million, its portfolio value climbed a robust 68% to $106.5 million. The firm deployed $22.5 million into micro-capitalization resources companies, with standout gains including a $5.1 million boost in Medallion Metals and a $4.8 million increase in Sunshine Metals. Not every bet paid off—Brightstar and Koonenberry both saw value declines—but Lion's strong balance sheet of $36 million in cash and term deposits leaves it well-positioned for future opportunities. Management sees a compelling outlook ahead, betting that cyclical conditions returning to boom territory will lift returns in its target market.
Novonix Faces Immediate Cash Demand
Battery materials company Novonix has hit a speed bump, with an amortisation event triggered under its funding agreement after the share price dipped below A$0.12. The company must fork out US$7 million by 21 September 2026, funded from existing cash reserves. If the share price remains depressed, further payments of 20% of the outstanding amount will kick in every 30 days until either the trigger lifts or the debt is fully repaid.
That said, Novonix has brighter news elsewhere. The company received positive feedback from its lead customer on synthetic graphite samples, with the material meeting 12 out of 14 specification parameters. One missed spec came within roughly 1% of requirements, while the other fell just short on a pass-fail basis. Novonix believes it can iron out these wrinkles and expects mass production sales to begin in the second half of 2027. The company remains focused on building a secure North American battery materials supply chain to reduce risk and support U.S. energy independence.
X2M Expands Data Center Footprint
Infrastructure developer X2M Connect has inked its third partnership for high-density GPU data centers, this time with Ethical Development Fund Australia. The non-binding agreement targets North Queensland for developing AI data center and energy precincts ranging from 10MW to 100MW capacity. X2M will deliver the infrastructure and potentially manage operations long-term, generating revenue across both phases while tapping into existing renewable power generation.
Nine Entertainment Locks in Premier League Through 2034
Media giant Nine Entertainment has extended its Australian streaming and broadcast rights for the Premier League through 2033-34, cementing its dominance in sports broadcasting for another six years. The deal covers all 380 annual matches and will primarily flow through Stan Sport, which has seen significant subscriber growth fueled by the football content. Nine expects the FY29 rights fee to track similar to FY28 with a 3% annual increase over the contract period, and management is confident cost-saving and revenue initiatives will offset the rising expenses while keeping the Premier League a key growth driver for Stan.
